Once again it is Saturday and time to mention one or two people who were sighted for their fashion selections in Columbia. Each week we discuss what makes a stylish outfit and what can be done at little or no cost to brighten up a drab choice.or to correct a fashion faux pas.
This week the A+ goes to a lady sighted at Kitty’s Hallmark Shop in Sandhills. She was wearing a brown floral mid-calf length skirt in a soft, feminine, swirling style. It looked very soft and fell gracefully with no binding or hitching. The hemline was straight and did not show any sign of pulling up in the back. With the print skirt, she wore an ivory knit tank that picked up the background color of the skirt perfectly. This was highlighted by a dark brown chunky beaded necklace, an excellent match for the dark brown in the skirt’s floral print. Her outfit was completed with a pair of dark brown strappy slide sandals, once again playing off the dark brown flowers. All in all, an excellent job and a chic, sophisticated, cool and fresh look. This lady was classy, coordinated, and an inspiration to all of us.
Also sighted this week, in Books a Million this time, was a lady who needs a little help with her wardrobe choices. She was wearing a pair of very light tan chino capris, a light tan woven short sleeve camp shirt and light tan flat slip-on sandals. Her skin tone and hair color, unfortunately, were also nearly cream color and, overall, she was almost invisible. There was not a speck of color and nothing to draw the eye. While the look was neat and cool, it was also great for camouflage. She could have been a chameleon and nobody would have seen her.
What to do? This lady desperately needed a bit of color, dazzle or vibrancy. A bright scarf, a gaudy belt, perhaps a bright orange or lime green tank with the tan shirt worn open, a necklace with colorful faux gems or chunky bright beads, even a hot pink or neon cap would have helped. If you choose to wear one very bland color, add a touch of something bright to catch the eye. It doesn’t have to be a large piece and it doesn’t have to cost much at all. Animal prints, juicy colors, dazzle and glitz and beaded jewelry are very ”in.” Just think what an animal print top could have done to draw out the creamy tan!
Next week we will comment on one or two more people who have been sighted for fashion excellence or fashion flaws. These are ordinary local people doing very ordinary things. No one will ever be identified, and no one know who will be sighted next.
