Tommy Biffle from Wagoner, OK holds the lead going into the last day of the AutoZone Sooner Run, the last regular season tournament of the Bassmaster Elite Series.
Biffle continued attacking the shallow water while a crowd of over 50 spectator boats watched him put 17 pounds and 4ounces in his livewells, holding on to a lead of a mere 12 ounces. Biffle saw a chance to have a much larger lead swim away as a 6 pound plus largemouth pulled off his hook and got away.
“I came into this week expecting to win and I think so did everybody else,” said Biffle, 52. “I’m actually worried about the alternative. I don’t want to let anyone down.”
Today’s weight gave Biffle a three day total of 55 pounds, 8 ounces.
Ending the third day in second place was Pat Golden of High Point, NC with a total of 54 pounds, 12 ounces.
Golden is focusing on three areas and has been rotating through them to catch his limits.
“Coming into this week, I didn’t think it was feasible to get a victory here,” said Golden. “But once I got to practice here, I knew that I had a chance. I’m having a blast.”
Moving up to third place was Rick Morris of Lake Gaston, VA with 53 pounds, 6 ounces.
Rounding out the top five are two of the hottest anglers in bass fishing. Skeet Reese, the 2010 Angler of the Year leader, has moved into fourth place with 52 pounds, 15 ounces and Kevin VanDam, five time AOY, is in fifth with 52 pounds, 11 ounces.
