There are an array of options for Montgomery County families who wish to adopt without spending their entire savings to do it. There are thousands of children each year who go without a family of their own, simply because not enough people may know about these services. Below, you will find some helpful resources in Montgomery County/Middle Tennessee.
Tennessee Dept. of Childrens Services
The Department of Childrens Services has guardianship of hundreds of children who are in need of a permanent, loving home. Some of these children have been taken by the state because the parents cannot commit to resolving whatever issues caused the removal in the first place. Some of them have been relinquished by their parents who simply did not know how to parent them.
Most people are unaware of the fact that most state adoptions are actually FUNDED by the state as well; in other words, there is usually a minimal (if any) cost to adopt chlidren out of state care, including foster care. While this should not be a deciding factor in adoption, it does serve to alleviate some of the burden of choosing NOT to adopt a child simply because of the costs associated with the adoption. The last thing a child needs, is to be brought into a family who will be left practically penniless after paying the fees associated with adoption. Go to the DCS website or contact the local DCS office in Clarksville at (931) 503-3200; they are located at 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 401 in Clarksville, Tennessee 37040. Ask them for information on becoming a foster parent and/or adopting from foster care.
Youth Villages is a national organization with several local offices. Alot of these kids have emotional issues, but with love and compassion, patience and support. they can overcome the obstacles and be a loving, functioning member of your family. For more information, go to the Youth Villages website or call the Clarksville office at 931-503-0777; their office is located at 585 S. Riverside Drive, Suite G, in Clarksville TN. 37040.
Approximately 300 Tennessee youth are listed in a photo-listing on this website. As with DCS, you are required to take a FREE class for parent preparation. The difference is, on AdoptUSKids you can view waiting children in all states that have children waiting to be adopted instead of just the Tennessee listings. For more information, go to their website or call them at 615-253-4666.
