The Real L Word™ – New Reality Series from Showtime is a nine episode, one hour reality series following a group of real-life Los Angeles lesbians as they go about their daily and nightly routines both at work and at play. The first gay-themed reality series on premium cable, challenges stereotypes and will show viewers a whole new side of lesbians.
The series comes from champion chronicler of lesbian stories, Ilene Chaiken (THE L WORD®) along with Magical Elves, the reality producers who made runaway successes of Project Runway and Top Chef.
The Real L Word – EPISODE 101:
I absolutely LOVE this show! It’s so full of drama, comedy, foul-mouthed, tattooed, fierce and fabulous women who just happen to be lesbians! I did watch a season or two of the The L Word® but at that time, I worked a lot and they didn’t have DVRs yet. Thankfully, I am a full subscriber to Showtime and I am tickled pink (no pun intended) about this new reality show. A real breakthrough for the gay community, especially lesbians, as it is the first gay-themed reality series to hit premium cable! Way to go Showtime!
I wasn’t sure what to make of it when I got the DVD screener containing the first two episodes, but I figured “what the hell, let’s give it a whirl” so I popped in the DVD and settled in for two hours of unknown television. I am so happy I did!! This show has more antics and drama than anything those silly housewives can dish out. These ladies do their thing with much more colorful anecdotes and catch phrases that really had me laughing out loud saying “Damn, WTF, Holy Shit”, and a few other things during the whole two hours.
Honestly, no matter what your gender or sexual preference, this show will make you laugh and really open your eyes as we catch a glimpse of what it’s like in the lesbian world. I for one will be watching. I am so bummed they only sent two episodes! I want to see what happens next because I’m already addicted to this show!
As of now, Whitney, a special effects artist, is my favorite. She is a trip and if there was a female Casanova, she is in the running for 1st place! In the first episode, what she does in the end cracks me up to no end! She never made any promises to anyone and she’s been open and honest about the fact that she is single…but some girls just can’t resist falling in love with her.
Mikey (pronounced Mike – y), producer of LA Fashion Weekend, is f**king hilarious! If I didn’t know better, I’d think she has cojones the size of coconuts! She’s ballsy and it’s no holds barred when it comes to her job as owner of The Gallery Los Angeles. The stress mounts when her new intern makes a big mistake with casting and the agency sends under-qualified models without proper credentials. It’s drama galore with some funny twists!
Hot Latina spitfire and self-confessed cheater now reformed, Rose has a live-in girlfriend Natalie whom she’s been dating for seven months. Monogamy ain’t easy and the pressure is on when her family talks about her finally settling down. I don’t think Rose is ready for that just yet and the conversation catches fire when Natalie talks about having babies.
Nikki and Jill are planning their wedding. Planning a wedding for one bride is stressful enough, but with two brides…whoa! So, they enlist the help of a wedding planner to assist in putting together an elegant ceremony. Jill’s anxiety over the wedding budget makes Nikki nervous. Is it just about the money or something else lurking underneath for Jill? She’s not actually comfortable with saying she’s openly gay just yet…is this the sign of cold feet?
Tracy is a newbie on the lesbian scene only finally coming out of the proverbial closet just a few years ago. The strained relationship with her mother’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” rule is becoming uncomfortable for Tracey since she can’t share things about her current relationship with Stamie who just happens to be a mother of three. Complicated is an understatement.
Housewives – move over! These lesbians are smoking hot, fierce, fabulous, and can spend money, booze it up and party with the best of them!
