Today in The Times an article by David Charter reads “Angela Merkel stunned EU capitals by warning that the euro was in danger and triggered fears of a fresh financial meltdown by announcing a ban of risky trading practices by speculators. The German chancellor’s actions opened up new cracks in the single currency, drawing sharp criticism from France and prompting Brussels to issue an appeal for unity” It then says “European finance ministers, who have just hammered out a massive rescue plan for Greece, will hear controversial calls from Germany at a meeting tomorrow for changes to the Lisbon treaty to give Brussels powers to co-ordinate national budgets. Ms Merkel believes that the EU should have stronger powers to organize the ‘orderly insolvency’ of countries such as Greece that set giveaway budgets with no means of paying for them. She warned: ‘This challenge is existential and we have to rise to it. The euro is in danger. If we don’t deal with this danger, the the consequences for us in Europe are incalculable…If the euro fails, then Europe fails.” It then says “Her apocalyptic warning came as David Cameron prepared for his first visit as Prime Minister to Paris and Berlin, where he is likely to come under pressire to commit more British funds to EU bailout programs.”
Some questions came up. First off, is it true what Ms. Merkel said, “If the euro fails, then Europe fails.” A horary chart to explore this pronouncement was drawn up in Albuquerque, NM on May 20, 2010 at 2:07 PM MDT. The answer is basically NO. If the euro fails Europe will not fail. Looking more closely at that chart we find the Moon besieged between Mars and Saturn in the 12th House forming opposition with Neptune and square the Sun. This is showing that Ms Merkel has come under duress from her colleagues in Brussels; there is something dangerous going on behind the scenes that has brought her to make such a statement. Perhaps it would have been more to the point, had she been free, to say that if the euro fails, then the EU fails. This, at least, would show up the nature of the EU to be a financial arrangement that currently is not working and that is threatening Northern European interests including those of Germany. It is useless for the directors of the EU to try to maintain its current order. It must change if it is to survive as an entity. This time is, indeed, bringing up an existential challenge to the EU. To increase, or strengthen its powers now is a big mistake. It would also be a big mistake for Prime Minister Cameron to throw good money after bad and commit more British funds to EU bailout programmes. One hopes he has the resolve to desist.
Looking at the chart of the European Union itself (November 1, 1993 at 00:01 CET in Bruxelles, Belgium) we see a bad situation that inevitably develops. The chart is severely afflicted. If the EU is to survive as an entity it will sooner or later have to be reorganized. Its current order is destined to be disrupted. According to the nature of the EU chart, the ultimate changes will come about in a time of violence. Progressed to the present date, the charts show that the EU is at a big turning point. It appears the EU has begun a new cycle. Destructive conditions are now affecting the very organization. This is causing the organization to assert itself by moving to strenghten its powers instead of reorganizing. This aggressive resolve will result in violent protests among the people in more countries than Greece. There is mounting frustration, resentment and anger among the European people. Transiting Mars has been heating up the situation and will trigger sharp anger next week, especially May 24th through 28th. The progressed Moon will bring out chaotic conditions between August and the end of this year.
Another Horary chart was drawn up in Albuquerque, NM on May 19th, 2010 at 9:48 PM MDT on the current outlook for the euro. According to this chart the condition of the euro is astrologically tied to the Jupiter/Saturn opposition now in affect. This means that the euro is undergoing a major correction. Its value is now plummeting. The correction period will extend well beyond one year. Transiting Pluto will reach conjunction the EU natal Sun in 2013 timing yet another and more challenging period for the organization of the EU. The current Jupiter/Saturn cycle that began in May 2000 in Taurus has particular meaning for Ireland. Under the current conditions Ireland will become a major threat to the survival of the euro and to the stability of the EU.
In addition to the above, the chart of the euro itself shows the on-going Saturn/Uranus opposition challenging the existence of the euro and the EU. This opposition will continue to be in affect through the summer of 2011. There is no way around this. The EU will have to reorganize and loosen its grip. Considering the nature of the organization it will come as no surprise if different nations move to pull out of the union.
It can be argued that Europe as an economic entity will fail if it continues to try rigidly to maintain the current organization as it now exists. The real existential challenge is not about Europe. It is about the way the EU is organized. It needs to change. Radical change is inevitable.
