About the Arc of Aurora
The Arc of Aurora is a Non-Profit Organization providing individuals with systems change advocacy for and with people who are developmentally disabled and their families. They have information and referral programs and community education and training for individuals and families. The organization is affiliated with The Arc of Colorado and The Arc of the United States, with some of their many needed funds coming from the Arc Thrift Stores.
Their advocacy support, with only two employees, helps more than 400 people with developmental disabilities. These individuals have met the standards required by the organization and the definition set by the Colorado Revised Statute. Their advocacy staff are trained to assist individuals and groups in the least intrusive manner helping them to resolve their issues or obtain the support they need. The advocacy assistance they give comes in many forms from helping with referral to file social security income to complaints about educational programs. They are also assisting with the writing of legislation to remove the “R” word from state statutes to national resolutions involving neglect and abuse of vulnerable individuals.
