Father’s Day is usually a day to recognize, celebrate, and appreciate the contributions that many fathers make. And an annual tradition to help put the spotlight on positive men doing positive things, as well as supporting local organizations which are focused on community outreach is none other than the annual Real Men Cook Event.
Taking place this Father’s Day, June 20th, from 3pm-6pm at the Georgia Freight Depot (near Underground Atlanta), this annual event brings the best of all aspects of the community together. Given its family-themed atmosphere, support of outstanding community organizations, and putting a positive spotlight on men who whether in front of or behind the scenes, the themes of unity and family are ever-present.
And it doesn’t hurt that there’s plenty of outstanding food for people to try.
State Farm Insurance, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, WSB-TV, Kroger, AirTran, The Islands of the Bahamas (official tourism division), and Waffle House are just a sample of the many corporate sponsors who support this event each and every year. Outstanding community-based organizations such as Communities in Schools, C.H.O.I.C.E.S., and Real Men Charities, Inc., which are youth-focused organizations, are the charities which this Sunday’s event is supporting.
As an added bonus, Ruben Studdard (former American Idol) is scheduled to perform, as well as cook along with nearly 100 individual men, local restaurants, and caterers. His foundation, the Ruben Studdard Foundation for the Advancement of Children in the Music Arts, is also among the organizations supported by this event.
Fox 5 Anchor Lisa Rayam is serving as the master of ceremonies for Sunday’s event. R and B artist Cherelle is scheduled to appear, as well as celebrity MC’s as Tom Jones (WSB-TV), Sam Crenshaw (WXIA-TV), the Food Network’s Chef Jamika, and actress/author and child advocate Victoria Rowell. Some of the celebrity tasters include Evelyn Mims (WXIA-TV), local television and radio personality Esther Caspino, Tami Reed (Talking With Tami), and a strong myriad of personalities from radio, television, entertainment, and the arts. The Honorary Chair lineup is equally as impressive, as Roger Bobb (from Tyler Perry Studios), Congressman John Lewis (D-GA), Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond, and Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell are among those who are serving this essential role.
Under the leadership of Chairperson Diane Larche, the committed staff of board members and volunteers clearly have put in a tremendous amount of time, energy, and effort to continue to build on the success of this annual family-themed event. Advance tickets are still available at $20 per adult and $10 per child, as this provides you with high level access to the food, fun, and fellowship this event consistently provides. If tickets are purchased at the door, the prices are to increase to $25 for adults and $15 for children.
Real men, real fun, real fellowship, real food. It sounds like a real good way to spend Father’s Day.
