The events are held in downtown Potter Valley at their new 23-acre location. Participants will be from Mendocino County as well as from outside the area.
Potter Valley’s ranch heritage goes back to the homestead days of the 1850’s and is still part of everyday life in this picturesque valley. The rodeo dates back to 1946 and is a community event presented by local volunteers.
The Main Street parade kicks off the festivities each year. There will also be Axe Throwing competitions, Junior Rodeo, the Starlight Dance, and other activities that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Potter Valley and the surrounding Mendocino County region.
You can also expect a lawn mower race and professional rodeo as well as Team Roping and Barrel Racing. Imagine the fun when you travel to the charming enclave of Potter Valley in Mendocino County.
A popular feature of the Potter Valley rodeo each year is an all-day Gymkhana and Playday — with activities for all ages.
There are other activities throughout the weekend. There’s more information and a complete schedule at the Potter Valley Rodeo website. You may also call 707.272.2146 or e-mail [email protected] for more information.
So, how much does all this cost? The Main Street parade is free. A pass for either Saturday or Sunday is just $10. Children 12 and younger are admitted free.
What’s to eat? In addition to the usual food vendors at festive events, Saturday and Sunday the Boy Scouts will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, taco salads, nachos, and ice cream. The Potter Valley 4-H group will sell snow cones. On Sunday there will be Beef and Lamb BBQ. Hungry yet?
Proceeds from the event will help fund the development of the Potter Valley Community Parks & Recreation property that will be home for future rodeos. The venue will also include a community building, county park and fields for softball and soccer.
