It’s been over two months since the Gulf Coast oil spill occurred. This tragedy has caused the states that depend on the Gulf Coast to make a living, to lose their economic livelihood. President Obama has been criticized by both Democrats and Republicans for his lack of urgency. Aside for his lackadaisical response, the BP oil spill is an event that will trigger tougher regulations, and give clout to the new Senate bill: The American Power Act, a bipartisan bill crafted by Senators John Kerry (D-Mass), and Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn).
The American Power Act is the government’s response to the oil crisis, and President Obama’s solution to this travesty comes in the form of a $7 per gallon hike in oil prices to curb consumption. This estimated hike of oil costs was estimated by a Harvard University study claiming, “may require gas prices greater than $7 a gallon by 2020 to meet Obama’s stated goal of reducing emissions 14 percent from the transportation sector.” So how does this clean up the oil in the Gulf Coast? The answer is it doesn’t. The New York Post writes, these “measures wouldn’t do a thing to clean up the oil or fix the problems that led to the leak.”
If this bill goes into effect, it will hurt the middle class the most. This repackaged cap-and-tax legislation is being pushed down American’s throat in utilizing this strategic event against the American people. Obama’s Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s echoed this sentiment in why they are using this event against the American People: “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste — and what I mean by that is it’s an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before.” In other words, use events like the one in the Gulf Coast to pass legislation that would otherwise be rejected, but since Americans are desperate for solutions, our sympathetic sentiments will be used against them. This same strategy was used against the American people after September 11th, with the PATRIOT ACT, and now President Obama and his progressive goons are willing to use the BP oil spill to pass his legislative agenda.
It seems regardless of who’s in power; the same old crooked schemes are being employed against the American populace to pass legislation that threatens civil liberties in their quest to increase the size of government. Whether it’s the Republicans or Democrats, they both want to increase government’s stranglehold on the lives of American people in regulating what they do to death. Our two party system is not representative of the American people, and the government for the people by the people is more for special interest and by special interest. Our fair Republic, if not protected will give way towards its instiction by the disease of croonism.
