This is the email we received today:
A message to all members of Wicca Online Community For Pagans and Wiccans
your friendly neighbourhood administrator Lady here.
Unfortunately, I have some heavy news to be laying upon everyone and it saddens me that it’s come to this.
As per Brian K’s orders, due to all of the hellfire that’s been thrown around lately,
I thought that I should inform everyone on site ahead of time before I
change the main site rules, the forum reference and start enforcing the
changes in rules.
With a heavy heart, I hate to see things going in this direction and
things are getting out of hand. We have been dealing with a lot of
segregation, hatred and people starting drama – and after coming to a
decision, Brian has put out orders that everyone who uses the term
bunny to describe a person, attack or belittle a person or call them a
bunny in any way. As it causes persecution, segregation and general
negativity towards those who are new, not as informed and those looking
for a place in Paganism.
If any member is caught bullying, belittling or attacking another user
for any reason, both parties will be warned once and then banned.
This goes for all parts of the site; the chatroom, the forums, the groups and the profile pages.
We have dropped in massive numbers, we have negativity going on about
the site and things are going downhill for WiccanTogether. The drama is
upsetting many, people are scared to talk lest they be called a fluffy
bunny and it’s causing a negative outlook upon WiccanTogether, Paganism
online and Paganism in general.
Newcomers are being turned away for asking simple questions, some may
not be legit but some are simply undereducated and should not be
attacked in the way that has become recent fashion. The discrimination
has always been there, but has become more relevant recently.
Brian and I both (I can’t speak for Syn and Crucial, though I bet they
are as well) are getting constant complaints about being ganged up on
in chat, and even regulars who have been with us since the beginning
have said their goodbyes to WiccanTogether because the drama, bullying
and fighting has become too much for them to handle and it’s made
WiccanTogether no longer educational, entertaining, friendly or a
viable networking community.
We are going to be cracking down on the hatred, the drama and all of
the intentional segregation between the informed, ill-informed and
under-informed. I find it very sad that the Pagan community is coming
to this online, that we are so prejudice amongst one another that we
are quicker to shoot down another Pagan than any other religion would.
No one can ever be forced to like one another, nor will everyone get
along but we can’t continue to be bigoted against ourselves – it is
helping no one.
So on behalf of Brian and WiccanTogether, I plead with all of you here
– regulars especially to please do your best to put the best foot
forward, do not stir the pot and please do not slam others for not
knowing things. If you find something ignorant, please walk away. If
something angers you, please walk away. If something is incorrect,
please correct it in a polite manner. We are here to network with one
another to spread proper information to those seeking, and in need.
There will always be misinformation, and it’s the intelligent regulars
duty to give those who are misinformed correct info – not just call
them idiots and to get out.
I love this website, I love all it’s members and I want everyone to
attempt to at least be civil with one another. If not for yourselves,
if not for WiccanTogether – for the greater good of Paganism itself.
Lets educate people, not persecute people.
You all have made my job as moderator amazing, and those of you who
help follow the given rules are wonderful people. Keep up the good
work, my lovely little lemon drops.
Blessings to you all.

She’s right, of course. This sort of behavior is what drove so many of our members and friends away from mainstream religion, and why so many people never join networking sites at all. It’s proof that the whole ‘internet bullying’ BS that’s been all over the news is now infiltrating our own ranks that are supposed to be a support system for the fragile against the attacks of the rest of the world, and it’s entirely unacceptable.
Pagans as a community are supposed to be showing the rest of the world that we can be better people, that we have a nicer way to run a reasonable and functional society, even if it is spread out over the internet and not localized. This behavior is entirely opposite of the one rule most of us agree on, “Harm None”.
And it’s very disappointing.
