It started with a typical American family, Joe and Chrissy Vanloon and their three children. Joe worked and Chrissy worked. Things were normal for this American family. Then Joe got laid off at that time. Chrissy found out she could not work a job where she was away from the house. You see their son has a rare disease called ADL. One characteristic of this disease is that their young son must be protected from germs and bacteria that would be devastating. He recently underwent transplant surgery and mom stayed at the hospital for three months while Joe cared for their daughters. Their son is home, but must be protected and cannot go to school.
When things got really bad, they decided to open up a business at their home. Since Chrissy was a groomer for 13 years, this is the business they chose. Joe is in the process of completing training as a groomer.
After going through licensing through the State of Colorado, they obtained their Occupational Home Permit and were licensed through the Department of Agricultural Pet Animal Care Facility Act.
Now, the American dream was theirs, to start a business and make a living doing what you love. They opened Loony Groom’ in January 2010. They decided the American way was to offer ‘the lowest price of any groomer in Colorado Springs.’ Joe said they will beat any price.
An American concept is that we love our pets like family members and want to care for them. Having the lowest grooming price means that everyone can give their pet the care it deserves. Loony Groom’ offers services for dogs and cats. They will bathe your dog using the best shampoos and conditioners to keep their coats healthy; that might mean oatmeal shampoo. They do ear cleansings, trim toe nails, brush their teeth and cat style grooming as well. Dogs leave with the latest styles even a Mohawk.
The importance of grooming pets is not just to make them look pretty. According to Joe and Chrissy, many skin diseases and other problems arise from hair matting. Sores and tears in the skin from poor hair condition and lack of grooming are uncomfortable for your pet. Bad grooming adds to the pets critter problem and in severe cases, they have seen maggots as a result of neglect.
Something that sets Loony Groom apart is their policy of no caging. This is not an assembly line place with dogs being unnecessarily caged for hours. They do just one family at a time. The general session takes about an hour and a half.
The Vanloons pride themselves on helping America by supporting small business ventures rather than large corporations. They can help their fellow Americans by offering the care you only get in a small salon and at the least expensive price. Getting a bargain is a necessity and it is the American way.
