The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) seeks nominations of “courageous female advocates” for an online contest offered as part of the group’s new partnership with the 2010 Lilith Tour, a traveling female megastar music festival that donates much of its proceeds to charities including the ASPCA.
“In the spirit of the tour’s generosity,” the ASPCA explained in a media release, “supporters are encouraged to visit the ASPCA website and, in 300 words or less,” submit a nomination and a photo of someone who has shown “special dedication to combating animal cruelty and pet homelessness.”
The grand prize winner gets a guitar autographed by artists performing in the Lilith Fair tour.
This year’s acts include hit-makers such as tour cofounder and longtime ASPCA supporter Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Rihanna, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Emmylou Harris, Indigo Girls, Queen Latifah, Loretta Lynn, Martina McBride, Carly Simon, and many more.
“Since its inception, Lilith Fair has become an important symbol of strength and compassion,” said ASPCA President and CEO Ed Sayres. “We recognize the value of having such compassion and kindness in our society, and we are thrilled to be working with the Lilith Fair and Sarah to honor so many heroic women.”
