For a lightly prepared meal that satisfies the five taste senses, Thai food is a great choice. Savannah has about six different Thai restaurants to choose from.
Kao Thai on Victory is a good choice. White linens give it an elegant setting for business or pleasure.
The Basil Rolls filled with basil leaves, bean sprouts, lettuce, rice noodles and shrimp offer a very fresh way to start the meal.
In the spirit of basil, we try the Thai Basil entree made with a choice of chicken, beef, pork or tofu and sauteed with the much loved basil leaves, onions and bell peppers in a fine chili sauce. And what would a Thai meal be with out a type of Pad Thai? The Pad Kee Mao with chicken, fried wide rice noodles, green beans, onions, tomatoes and, of course, basil leaves – is another great choice for the taste palate.
Another fine place for Thai cuisine, is Chiriya’s on Abercorn. You are greeted by an Aloha sign that hints at the fact that they also serve Hawaiian style food. For a more typical Thai experience – try the curry.
Chiriya’s offers seven curries total, and they all sound delicious. The Red Curry, always a favorite, is cooked with young bamboo shoots, carrots, coconut milk and, of course, basil and Thai spices. Served with steamed rice, this makes for a very tasty dish – as does the Mixed Seafood Stir Fry cooked with shrimp, calamari, mussels and scallops, accompanied by onions, bell peppers, chili sauce, and yes, you guessed it – basil.
At Chiriya’s Thai Cuisine you can spice-up your meal according to your preference in heat. When choosing between mild, medium and hot, I would recommend mild. It is less harmless then you would expect.
For “fast food” lovers or should I say, those wanting Thai food quick – Umami is a great place to stop. Offering a mix of Asian food, including Thai dishes. The service is fast and friendly as is the food – fast and friendly to the senses.
Located in the Publix shopping mall on Abercorn, this eatery feels like a mix between a famous chain and a local favorite.
Whether you are in the mood for some typical Thai or a Japanese Teriyaki, the menu has a wide variety of Asian favorites.
So try some Thai – fast or slow, you can’t go wrong.
