-I-n-d-e-p-e-n-d-e-n-t- what does this mean to dating people?
Independence is a well debated topic in dating. The idea of independence in dating can seem contradictory because in any relationship the thought of being dependable is a good quality for a companion to have. The fine line that divides dependence and independence in dating can often be skewed, blurred and even sometimes nonexistent depending on opinion.
In the dating world, the word independent has millions of variations all depending on who is asked to define it. Independent is a word that is synonymous with other words like free, self-sufficient and liberated. Typically the word independence has been associated with things and events that follow the pattern of bad turning into good, such as England’s monarchy ruling America (bad) to the U.S. gaining independence (good). However in 2010, the idea of being independent in dating is alluring and almost more like a requirement to be a viable contender in the dating market.
The popular theory seems to be focused more for woman than men even though it is equally applicable to both sexes. A possible reason for it to lean towards women is because of the “old school” ways of a typical fifties and sixties housewife. The thought of a woman being able to “hold her own” or establish herself has developed into a good platform for woman to become more empowered in life and life’s various ventures. However, in the dating world independence draws a fine line in the sand of dependability for both men and woman.
Today’s society has dubbed independence as a positive quality to look for while dating and rightfully so. Independence, whether it is meant for a man or woman, is a positive accomplishment to achieve in a person’s life. The ability to establish one’s self as a productive, effective member in society is wonderful in many ways, but does that really have anything to do with love? In dating the assumption is that people want to find love, companionship and trust to name a few, but it seems difficult to be an “independent lover”.
While independence may seem contradictory in terms of a relationship, all things are relative. Depending on people and the many factors that create life, independence can have so many different definitions and varying levels of importance. The main point of advice is to consider how important it is personally and what it means on a custom level. There is a need for balance, a fine line, a common understanding between daters about what independence is and how much of it is a good thing.
The concept of independence in dating has many facets to it. The unique quality of differences among people are what make the world such an interesting place to be a part of. All of this serves as food for thought to dating people in the Tampa Bay area to develop their own opinion about how independence fits into their dating life.
