God I am just grateful this day! I look back on my life and I am so humbled and filled with joy! There has never been a time when there was not a father in my life or at least a presence, even in my natural fathers absence. God has sent pastors to be father to me whether in image or providing guidance or a stable mother and father image so I would know what to model after. He has sent Principals to show me what a father should be. I have been blessed with Joe Clark my former principal who encouraged me to audition for the part of Kaneesha in Lean On Me but I was not confident enough, yet he helped build my confidence. It meant so much to me that he believed in me.
God blessed me with a male guidance counselor at Seton Hall University who encouraged me to go to Columbia University. He also encouraged me to enter my first essay contest at Seton Hall and I won 1st place. There again building my confidence. He blessed me with Don Cox in high school who saw to it I was Mayor for the day. He saw to it I got scholarships and had so many other opportunities. He blessed me with Dr. Bossman, a boss who did not see color but gave me an opportunity to be the Business Manager of his journal the Biblical Theology Bulletin at 18. He helped inspire me to write. He gave me the strength and memory that people are people when I faced racism later in life. His gentle spirit reminds me that under the flesh there is either love or hate but that God loves us all. His presence in my life still blesses me today. My current boss provides a very diverse workforce that helps me endure what I have faced in the south. It provides me an income and it is so nice to be around all people just like in New Jersey.
I have been blessed with a pastor who has shown my husband how to guard the gate and what it is to have stable employment because he was a young father and his father was not able to show him how to do that. He has blessed me with a husband, who had to be husband and daddy when we got married because Dad was not around. Mom also said “if we had children we would be raising our children because she had done her duty and she was not becoming ‘today’s Grandma momma’ and she was right, it was our responsibility.”
I am super grateful for my nephew who is aware of the huge responsibility that my husband bears as father of 4 boys and he is always there ready to give a helping hand. I remember the cops on the force telling my husband you guys only have 4 eyes and you need 10 to keep an eye on all those children. So no one should ever blame you guys if anything goes wrong. They were joking, but my nephew came home from college and the first thing he did was spend time with his cousins. He picked them up and took them out and just hung out with them. He then said “I have the children, enjoy your anniversary.” We have to not overlook all the help God sends our way. So I say thank you to all the men, who represent God so well, who have blessed our life in some way, it has all been very significant.
You are so APPRECIATED! Happy Fathers Day to my husband, my father, my Pastor, my nephew and my former boss and current boss and to all the men who represent father figures in our life! May God continue to bless your lives in a mighty way!
