Wanna talk shop with surf legends? Sure you do. Why on Earth would you not?
Then all you need to do is head down to Huntington Surf and Sport at PCH & Main, today at 10:00am.
Today, Huntington Surf and Sport kicks off its summer-long “Talk Story” series with special guests Robert August, Peter Townend and shaper Rusty Preisendorfer. The guys will be gathering in “The Boardroom” telling stories of surf adventures, travels, surf spots, and just about anything you can think of.
If you haven’t visited “The Boardroom”, now’s your chance.
“It’s a unique environment, already.” Say HSS Store Manager Scott Toth. “We have a coffee shop, and it’s not uncommon to have the locals and guys like “PT” drop in for a cup of coffee, sit around and talk surfing. It’s just a very cool vibe.”
Trust the Surfing Examiner on this one: You don’t want to miss the opportunity to talk with these guys.
Last month, the Surfing Examiner spent two days on the beach with August, drilling him on topics from board design to the demise of Clark Foam. But, in particular, the SE wanted to get the inside story on the making of Endless Summer. As it turns out, Robert is an awesome storyteller, and rest assured, he’s got plenty of stories to tell.
And the SE just had to hear about the discovery of Cape St. Francis.
“We actually did just stumble upon it,” August told the SE. “Not like in the movie. We were actually surfing away from the point, but we could see the whitewater down the coast. We surfed this beach break for a couple of hours, and then Hynson said, ‘I’m gonna paddle down and check it out.”
“You know Hynson,” August continued, “Mr. Dreamworld…I’m like, ‘Whatever…’ So we gathered up the stuff, and walked all the way out there. We came around the corner and were like, ‘Man-oh-man!’ It wasn’t hitting the rocks. It was perfect!”
To get into the head of one of surfing’s most recognized faces is a rare opportunity that no surfer should pass up. And HSS’s “Talk Story” series is happening all summer long.
“Yeah,” says Toth, “to have guys like this coming to hang out is insane. There’s a certain electricity to it.”
It truly is an unreal stoke to converse with these legends, and now is your chance, just head on down to “The Boardroom” at Huntington Surf and Sport at PCH & Main today at 10:00am.
You’ll be glad you did.
