There are literally a flurry of new Hollywood building projects in development but who knows which ones will end up with approvals to build? According to information found on Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Hollywood Entertainment District and Curbed L.A.com it would seem as though Hollywood is getting ready to build, rebuild and/or renovate close to the entire city of Hollywood. The dates seem optimistic, considering the W Hotel was originally slated to open in 2009, but you will be surprised at how much Hollywood plans to build in the future.
These are just some of the proposed projects on boards right now.
Did you know?
Did you know that there is a plan for a Hollywood Target at Western Avenue and Sunset Boulevard? According to Curbed L.A. development battles for the three-level store are under way. Comments from people on both sides perpetuated yet another delay in hearings.
The new Target would be 80-feet tall, which more than building codes will allow, would have a total of 458 parking spaces, as well as retail spaces. The drawings are worth looking at because they really help to sell the store and they would make the area look much better than it does in its current condition. The new Target would sit on the third floor of a three-story structure with two-levels of parking below it. Stay tuned for more information regarding Hollywood Target.
What do you think about a new Target store in Hollywood? As a resident, will Hollywood’s new Target get you out of the car? We want to know.
There is also the Thom Mayne-designed Emerson College building proposed to go up in Hollywood that resembles the Grande Arche de la Défense in the Paris business district designed by Otto von Sprekelsen, albeit a more contemporary and sustainable version. What an incredible piece of architecture to add to our growing skyline. Did you see it? Click on our link above to view some of the drawings.
Hollywood & Cahuenga – According to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce website under Economic Developments, the historic 1921 Security Bank Building at Hollywood and Cahuenga will be restored to its original grandeur and transformed into a new 78-room, luxury boutique hotel. The hotel will include an upscale restaurant, roof-top swimming pool and cafe/bar, retail space and a new parking garage. Construction is said to start in the fall of 2010. We could not get confirmation for this project.
Hollywood Madrone – The Hollywood’s Madrone project has finally restarted. According to Curbed L.A., construction officially began again on June 8, just one day after a loan was recorded to the bank. The project will eventually be renamed and rebranded. While the project will be built as condos, the building will be a rental until the market improves. The first tasks at hand are to clean up the site, take down the old scaffolding and get the needed subcontractors out on the site.
Vine Street Garage – The current surface parking lot between the Ricardo Montalban Theatre and The Broadway Hollywood building on Vine Street will become a covered garage complete with 475 parking spaces, as well as retail space on the first floor. Construction for this project is said to be completed by summer of 2011.
