Seven higher education institutions have taken 26,000 square feet of space and made it a green educational Mecca of higher learning, located at 15950 West Civic Center Plaza, Surprise, AZ 85374. This is where you can earn a Certificate, Associates, Bachelors, Masters and in the future a PhD. Communiversity has partnered with Glendale Community College, Phoenix College, Rio Salado College, West-MEC, Ottowa College, University of the Incarnate Word, and Western International University, making six pathways and 40 programs to choose from.
Glendale Community College, since 1965 the school has played a significant role in the community.
Phoenix College, the flagship Maricopa Community College with 200 degree and certificate programs.
Rio Salado College, a college within everyone’s reach providing educational opportunities for over 30 years.
West-MEC, makes it possible to earn college credits and high school credits at the same time. The courses are supported by business and post secondary institutions giving students real world training.
Ottawa College, established in 1865, and a pioneer in adult education since 1974.
University of the Incarnate Word, established in San Antonio, Texas in 1869 offers traditional programs in a convenient format.
Western International University, specializes in adult education with credit given for what you know.
Many classes are online, offered in a flexible eight week format with the possibility of transferring up to 90 credits. This School is an invitation to success; with a Kiosk that allows communication on a broad spectrum, state of the art study facilities and counseling from your university of choice.
The physical aspects are astonishing, with numerous sustainable features including; waterless urinals, dual flush toilets, low-flow faucets, motion detectors to turn off lights, bamboo ceilings, bio base floor tile, energy efficient lighting, web addressable energy management system, designed and built with a reduced need for electric lighting, water hydration station, significant site location, access to cafe to reduce need to leave, 500 online classes, 500 chairs of recycled materials, HVAC regulated by sensors, and stations for 600 laptop computers. The classroom facilities are state of the art technology that enables participation and ease of learning with rooms that are easily adjustable dependent on the class size and situation. The Starboard takes the place of so many things including the chalkboard; this is something that needs to be seen from the classroom.
Classes start every Monday; the tuition is $71 a credit, many courses are green with more forthcoming. Rio Salado College has programs for people over 50 who wish to retool their careers. Many of these programs are for teacher certification programs and social purpose jobs.
An article has appeared on TV about Nola Ochs, at 95, the oldest person to ever receive a BA. She started college in 1930 and then life took over. She recently graduated with her granddaughter becoming the oldest college grad, an inspiration to everybody. She went home after graduation to harvest the wheat on her farm but will most likely return for a graduate degree. She returned to earn her master’s at 98. If she can do it, so can you!
