Ohio: A 46 year old mother was charged with prostituting her 14 year old daughter. She confessed that she first caught her daughter having sex with her 42 year old boyfriend 4 years ago. Then, her daughter was 10 years old. She however allowed the sexual intercourse to continue in exchange for crack cocaine.
Minnesota: Southern Minnesota trucker was indicted on trafficking a child. According to the report, he was taking a child on interstate on a purpose of having sex and produce child pornography. The indictment says that he transported a child and coerced her to engage in sexually explicit act on five occasions between 2007 and 2008.
District of Columbia: The US State Department announced that the number of human trafficking victims estimates more than 12 million in 2009, and the local officers identified 49,105 victims of all kinds of human trafficking. This was 59% increase from year 2008. World Bank economist agreed to pay $41,000 to her Tanzania domestic servant after admitting her failure to pay the servant for eight months. The World Bank economist also made a contract that the servant will be deported if she tries to quit.
Canada: Human trafficking bill passed Senates. This was a private members bill calling for a mandatory minimum sentences for child traffickers. Under the new legislation a child trafficker will face minimum 5 years in jail upon conviction.
Philippines: Authority rescues more than 200 human trafficking victims at a bar in Manila during the raids. The raids is conducted in response to the 2010 U.S. Department of States placing the Philippines in Tier 2. According to the report, some of the women rescued were exploited with labor, and some other women were sexually exploited.
Malaysia: The police rescues more than 30 girls during the crackdown on human trafficking rings. Among the rescued victims, 13 years old girl and her sisters who are 15 and 16 years old were also rescued. The police believes that they were trafficked from the Philippines two months ago. According to the report, none of the victims possessed travel documents, and some of them were forced into prostitution.
Thailand: A U.S. citizen was arrested for engaging in sexual act with a 10 year old girl from a guesthouse. Currently, the 72 year old man denies all the allegation according to the report. But, the police is planning on searching his residence later this week.
Lebanon: Women from Latin America, Russia, Ukraine, and Morocco are employed in Lebanon as artists and work as strippers at nightclubs. However, they are strictly controlled by the nightclub owners. They are confined at a hotel during the days. The nightclub owner also takes away the women’s passports so that they can control the women’s movement.
UAE: Two Indian men were charged with forcing a 23 year old woman into prostitution. According to report, though the woman was in Dubai as a dancer, the two men threatened her and withheld food from her to force her into commercial sex. The two men denied the allegation.
