Many times we hear that all politics are local and while there is an element of truth in that, it is not entirely, entirely true. All of those we elect locally, like here in Atlanta, of course are going to have an impact on all of us locally; but those who are running in other states can have just as much impact on us locally as those within our own state. View the video below and see how a Senator from California can impact us here in Fayette County, Georgia.
It is getting to be a clique to say that families are hurting. So maybe we could begin to tell the truth, families are devastated by the loss of jobs, homes, and financial security – not to mention not knowing where the grocery money will come from or telling a high school student they cannot have their $90.00 yearbook this year; or put off dental care for child care.
Once senators and representatives arrive in Washington, they do not act alone. They have to get into their little groups and lobby each other to get what each wants. Ms. Pelosi in the driver’s seat in the House of Representatives and the things she says and does affects us all. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is from California; and yet even here in Georgia what she does affects the lives of people here in Georgia.
Approaching a hugely important race this fall in all states, we can be informed and vote for those locally; but we have no choice in who will be elected in other states which had impact our lives so majorly. Therefore, we have got to elect strong, honest, and hardworking people from our state to make an impact on others once they take office.
Also, as we approach these campaigns, we will be bombarded with requests to support local candidates. The Democratic, Progressive, and Republican Parties (as well as fringe parties), will be soliciting funds to carry on their campaigns. We can’t trust those already elected with our money, can we trust those who are not even elected yet? Yet can we sit by and not support the ones we feel can make not a “change” but a difference.
While the decision of whether Mike Huckabee will run in 2010 (or not) has not been announced, he is still actively involved in helping fellow Republicans succeed at the polls. And like it or not, it takes money for everything these days and that is something that is in short supply. This link will take you to his site which explains the video embedded below. This video only last 36 seconds but guaranteed to ruin the rest of your day.
We all need to take a look at our nation, the way we would like to see it go, and make an in depth study into those who are running, and pray, pray, pray for guidance as to who will receive our prized and valuable vote. If each of us could understand just how valuable that vote is, it would make us feel pretty good about living in a country where we still have more freedoms than most of the peoples of the world.
However, many feel that our nation is on a slippery slope and while we continue to work hard every day at jobs we may not even like, we are bombarded with more taxes – remember when we were promised no more taxes and people making less than $250.000 would not pay any taxes – well….where did that get off too? Economists have predicted that in years to come (shortly), we could be paying up to 50% of our income in taxes. Who will decide this? Those we elect this year.
Those who are fortunate enough to still a job (and their homes) are getting a little hot under the collar knowing that their future is bleak in the “getting ahead,” part. Those most devastated by all this change are just looking to see where their next meal is coming from.
There are few people, no matter to which side of the aisle their allegiance is glued to, who are too happy about the idea of them having to pay for other people’s insurance who choose not do not work; or who are in this country illegally. Ms. Pelosi says you can now quit your job and pursue your musical career but still be insured.
The embedded video is that statement by Ms. Pelosi who says with the new health care program that people can now quit their jobs and pursue their pipe dreams and still have insurance. Is your blood boiling yet?
PS: The way this writer sees this plan is like two men sitting in a restaurant. One man who sacrificed worked hard, when to college and worked his way up the ladder of success orders a steak dinner with all the trimmings. But when his order is delivered to the table he gets hamburger. When questioning the waiter, he is told, “See that man over in the corner, he quit high school, has never had a good job, and now because of the “share-the-wealth social government we now have, you can only have hamburger because you have to pay for his.”
