Dogs – the all too frequent targets of human disregard, despite their forgiving, loving nature. It is easy to get wrapped up in anger at those which choose to inflict harm on society’s beloved companions.
Surely there will be anger at the individual that shot Monty, a young Pitbull. The cowardly person not only shot Monty, but they also left him to die in the desert.
But there is a bigger story here. A story which involves the compassionate individuals that are striving to make Monty whole again.
On May 19, Monty, seriously injured and emaciated, was found outside of the home of a compassionate individual. Thankfully, this person did not turn a blind eye to Monty’s obvious pain – instead, the badly injured dog was taken to a vet clinic for treatment.
The vet determined that the young dog had been shot – the bullet travelling through both of his rear legs. Monty was suffering from infection, gaping wounds, and malnutrition. The easy thing at this point would be to euthanize the abused dog. Fortunately for Monty, the person that found him felt that the dog deserved a chance to live.
The compassionate people of Animal Rescue Volunteers Inc. have taken Monty under their wing. Currently, Monty is recovering from surgery. Perhaps the first of many. He has a band of followers that are fighting for his recovery – fighting for his quality of life. His supporters could have given up on Monty – his veterinary expenses are staggering. But they have made the decision to raise funds for Monty.
Monty is the poster-child for all of the abused dogs that are discarded, hurt, and killed by the people that put no value on the life of a dog. But Monty’s fans know that his life has value and that he is worth helping – worth saving. Much like Sweetie, the Pitbull that was attacked by 4 other dogs, or Sammy, the Retriever that fell from a cliff – their medical expenses were enormous, but their lives were worth more. Doing what is right isn’t always easy, but often, that which isn’t easy means the most.
