Healing and disinfectant resins and essences like Camphor, Myrrh, Propolis and Dragon’s Blood are common herbal natural ingredients found in salves and ointments and to make your own, that are used on your skin. The Chinese Medical Center has some natural remedies for you to aid in your healing.
Camphor has a strong, penetrating, fragrant odour, a bitter, pungent taste, and is slightly cold to the touch like menthol leaves; locally it is an irritant, numbs the peripheral sensory nerves, and is slightly antiseptic.
Camphor is used in medicine internally for its calming influence in hysteria, nervousness and neuralgia, and for serious diarrhoea, and externally as a counter-irritant in rheumatisms, sprains bronchitis, and in inflammatory conditions, and sometimes with menthol and phenol for heart failure and used in salves and ointments for cuts and scrapes. The distinctive odor of camphor is familiar, as it has been traditionally used in mothballs and some medical preparations to reduce itching.
An astringent and healing in its properties. As a tonic and stimulant excellent wash because it is good nutient support for your gums, andulcerated throat because of its extremely high antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Myrrh is used to clean wounds and to prevent infection. It was also used to prevent the spread of gangrene in already infected parts of the body.
It can be used to help alleviate wrinkles and to provide nutritional support to the skin and sagging. It has a cooling action and is used to alleviate ulcers, sores, wounds and chapped skin. Myrrh is also still used to prevent the spread of gangrene.
Some herbalists prescribe Myrrh to help alleviate athlete’s foot, ringworm and eczema.
At the end of His life on earth, after the crucifixion, we are told that Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, “about an hundred pound weight”, which they placed in the linen shroud.
When embalming their dead, the body was filled with myrrh, cassia and other fragrant materials, dried, wrapped in fine linen, and placed in side the linen wraps.
People have used propolis on wounds and for ailments ranging from itching, acne to cancer, osteoporosis, and tuberculosis. Propolis is used in the manufacture of chewing gum, cosmetics, creams, lozenges and ointments and is being investigated as a dental sealant and tooth enamel hardener. Studies have tested its effectiveness in humans and animals as a treatment for burns, minor wounds, infections, inflammatory diseases, dental pain, and genital herpes.
Many compounds in propolis are antioxidants and of a high antisceptic property.
Dragon’s Blood is used to promote healing and stop bleeding
Internally it is used for chest pains, post-partum bleeding, internal traumas, and menstrual irregularities.
This plant is used widely in traditional Chinese medicine and contains compounds that slow the growth of the germ that causes most peptic ulcers.
