Divide & Conquer?
As evidenced by the multiple billboards on both sides of the bay, the Bucs’ new marketing slogan of “Unite & Conquer” sounds awfully ironic considering how divided they appear to be with restricted free agent T Donald Penn on a contract extension.
To make matters worse, Penn has refused to sign the RFA tender of just over $3 million that the Bucs offered, only further complicating the negotiations.
Guys like Penn and Barrett Ruud have openly expressed their displeasure with the Bucs and their apparent unwillingness to sign them to long-term deals, which only further fuels the questions of financial viability surrounding the Glazers. Of course the Glazers have long refuted the notion of any monetary problems related to the Buccaneers, contrary to all of the obvious lack of big money contracts being issued by the Bucs towards their young, core players.
Training camp schedule released
Both rookies and veterans will report to One Buc Place on Friday, July 30th for the beginning of training camp. Although an exact time has yet to be released, judging by years past it’s probably safe to say that camp will open around 8am and last through the better part of the morning.
Camp will be held in Tampa for the second consecutive year after spending the previous few training camps at Walt Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
With battles expected at several key positions, notably receiver, defensive line and in the secondary, this year’s camp should be an exciting one in terms of heated competition and level of intensity.
Fanfest on Saturday, June 19th
The Bucs will be holding their annual Fanfest at Raymond James Stadium tomorrow from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. Fans seeking autographs will need to acquire the necessary vouchers in advance. Click on the link above for further details regarding how and where to acquire the vouchers.
There will also be two performances by the Bucs cheerleaders and clinics involving the offense, defense and head coach Raheem Morris.
Fans will also get an opportunity to see 1st round pick DT Gerald McCoy as well.
If you’ve never been, dress comfortably because it will still be nice and muggy as the night progresses. Also, wear comfortable shoes because you will be doing quite a bit of walking once you are inside the stadium.
