Today our tour of the local fine dining restaurants lands us at the heart of fine dining bbq, Bone Daddy’s House of Smoke. Bone Daddy’s House of Smoke is located at a very busy intersection of Spring Valley and the service road of highway 75 in Richardson, TX. It is a prime location for excellent customer flow, site recognition, and brand appeal. Which would make for an excellent dining experience, right? Not in our most recent visit.
Summertime is the time for bbq so we journey to Bone Daddy’s on a fairly busy Wednesday evening to test out some of the cuisine. We were greeted immediately upon entry with a smile and the smells from the restaurant were excellent. The staff was friendly and upbeat, but were dressed in next to nothing as a uniform. It felt more like a sports bar than a restaurant.
Atmosphere gets an B.
Restaurant was clean, well organized and had an impeccably clean restroom despite having a full house of customers. Floors were free of debris, the tables were turned quickly to ensure a short wait, and the cooks (who are visible) were working diligently to crank out those orders.
Operations and cleanliness gets a B.
Now, to the most important portion of the article, the food. This is where the disappointment occurred. The order was simple: medium well bbq cheeseburger, baked beans and fries. It seemed so simple, but the cooks viewed it differently.
The order arrived in a timely fashion, but was medium rare. It’s customary to cut a steakburger to ensure it’s cooked right, but this time it wasn’t cut into. It was quickly picked up and bitten into. What a surprise to see that it wasn’t cooked correctly. It was returned for a remake of the burger and some angry stare at the server for bringing this mistake.
The server returned with a new plate, new bun with trimmings, new fries, new baked beans with the same bitten into burger hidden underneath the trimmings. In the culinary world there is a simple rule on delivered food, if a customer returns it you must replace it. It’s a sanitation violation to re-cook food already tasted by the customer. It was unbelievable that this type of restaurant would sacrifice a person’s health by re-cooking an eaten product.
Food preparation gets an F.
The manager, Scott was on top of the mistake. He offered to make the order himself and give the burger complimentary. By this time hunger had left. Scott noticed this and offered to comp the entire check and give a take home meal for the entire family. Also gave a coupon to return for free drinks and food upon the next visit.
Management team receives an A+.
Not the best showing for a restaurant of this caliber, but management brought it home. When attending Bone Daddy’s enjoy the atmosphere, but check your food before eating.
