American Idol was on Tuesday night. Here is the show recap with a few of the judges comments. The Top 5 are singing the songs of Frank Sinatra. Harry Connick Jr. was the show mentor.
Ryan introduced the judges and thenThe Top 5 took the stage.
A video package about Harry Connick Jr was played. Harry talks about Frank Sinatra. Harry is playing piano tonight with the band and says he’s writing arrangements.
Frank’s daughters Nancy and Tina Sinatra are in the audience. They give Simon Cowell one of Frank’s monogrammed handkerchief. Simon is a big Sinatra fan.
A video is shown of each contestant in their mentoring session with Harry Connick Jr..
Aaron Kelly – “Fly me to the Moon”
Randy said that he did a good job.
Ellen said that he pulled it off and had beautiful vocals.
Kara said that is was not strong as last week.
Simon said that there was no conviction and that the vocals at the end were a bit corny.
Casey James – “Blue Skies”
Randy said that this was his worst performance and he was
Ellen said that felt stiff.
Kara said that he held some notes ,but his vibrato is out of control.
Simon said said that is was uncomfortable and was not fantastic.
Crystal Bowersox – “Summer Wind”
Randy said that it was ok and a bit sleepy for him.
Ellen said that she was that she likes that there are so many different sounds to Crystal and she is impress.
Kara said that she kind of liked it and she liked her phrasing.
Simon said that he loves the song, but felt that is was a little bit indulgent and the second half was a lot better.
Mike Lynche – “The Way You Look Tonight”
Harry said that this is one of his favorite songs.
Randy said that his arrangement and vocals were unbelievable and that Mike is in it to win it.
Ellen said that he seem to be the most comfortable and he look the part.
Kara said that he found the drama in the song, he took us on a journey and that he didn’t lose himself in the song.
Simon said that it all just clicked and it was fantastic and well done.
Lee DeWyze – “That’s Life”
Randy said that is was another great arrangement and he loved it.
Ellen said that if this was the last night of performances that he would have won the whole thing.
Kara asks Lee if he thinks he can win. He says yes. She tells him to go home and write I can win 100 times, because she believes he can.
Simon said it was by far the best performance of the night.
American Idol continues on Wednesday where one contestant will be sent home. There will also be a performance by Lady Gaga.
