Date night can always be a challenge. Do you stick with the normal dinner and a movie, or do you do something spectacular? How much does spectacular cost? How do you even find something spectacular to do? For 15 years, Portland Tub and Tan have been providing a spectacular service for cheaper than the cost of dinner and a movie.
Most people think of Hot Tub places as sex or dirty, but 50,000 clients disagree. I have to say, when my husband said he wanted to take me hot tubbing, I was a little leery myself. I didn’t want to be swimming in some one else’s body fluids or get a flesh-eating bacteria. After enough convincing, I still went reluctantly.
When I arrived, I felt a little more at ease. It’s a very nice place, there seemed to be a lot of technology around to keep the tubs safe, and the girl working behind the counter seemed to sense my nervousness, so she recommended room 16. I had no idea what that meant, but when we walked in, it was beautiful.
You can choose any type of music, but we had tranquility. We have children. A lot of children. That means at our house, there is always music blaring from somewhere. I was determined to get away, even if only for an hour. On the far wall was a waterfall, and when we dimmed the lights and played with the lasers, I was in heaven. There is a huge television on the wall, but we didn’t turn it on.
I stepped into the tub, and was immediately in heaven. We turned the cold water shower on above, and I sat under it feeling the perfect combination between hot and cold. For one hour, all of the stresses of the world melted away, and I left feeling refreshed and like I could face the craziness of my life for a while longer.
Next, I went on a mission to tell everyone I knew that they had to try it, and definitely go to room 16. There are other themed and outdoor rooms, but I am so in love with room 16 that no other will do. The biggest issue anyone I talked to about hot tubbing was cleanliness.
I spoke with the owner of Portland Tub and Tan and asked him to explain the cleanliness process. John began, “If you get in the spa, within a second chemicals are stopped or started based on your body cleanliness. Our system is better than the city or Portland fountains.” He went on to explain, “We measure in PPM(parts per million) in true reading, not in send return style, meaning we know and verify the system knows what is going on at all times in each spa. Not in all spas, in each one separate.”
He explained that the system they use costs about $40,000, and the system the downtown Portland fountains use are only a couple hundred and measure all of the people together, meaning that each person ins sharing everyone else’s water results.
Each spa has its own 100 square foot filter system that filters the water so clean that without the necessary chemicals, it would be cleaner than tap water. The computer system tests the water constantly, and every 2 hours each spa is physically verified. The health department only requires that it be physically checked once every day.
It doesn’t stop there. He went on to say, “To kill personal germs outside of the spa, a fine mist of hospital grade disinfectant is used them washed down the drains throughout the spa room.” He also told me that, “The spa has new water every 17.5 minutes.”
I would feel more safe going to Portland Tub and Tan than working out in the local gym after learning how much care they take to ensure that everyone is safe. We now go all the time.
