If you need a little help in deciding which charity to give to this season, here’s a suggestion, help ‘create promise’ and make it the Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth. Sounds like a mouthful I know, but here’s the best part…you get to put the GRGE (yours truly) to work doing it! Think of it as a ‘dunk tank’ at the circus, where I’m the guy you get to soak!
The event is called the 100 Holes Challenge and it’s being held at Sunnybrook Country Club in Grandville, Michigan. Contestants (like me) are asking sponsors (like you) to donate money while we try and play 100 holes of golf in one day!
To help put this in perspective, here’s a little math for you:
- If your golf league is 16 weeks long, when you tee-off on week #12 you’ll be playing your 100th hole!
- It will be the first hole when you make the turn during your sixth 18-hole round this year.
- Assuming we’re playing the blue tees, it will be 35,897 yards (or just under 20.4 miles!).
- And, sorry I can’t resist…if you lined up golf balls touching end-to-end, you would need just over 1,033,833 golf balls! Gosh, I hope I don’t lose that many!
The event is June 14th, and we get to register at 6 a.m.! Yes, that’s before breakfast, but they feed us lunch and we get about 12 hours to complete this one-of-a-kind ‘task’!
In addition, I’m asking all of my sponsors to send me something with their logo on it, or maybe just a bag-tag from their home course so I can display them (or wear them) during my ‘century of golf’! All sponsors are encouraged to come out and see what a great cause their donations are going to, and we’ll even let you drive the cart for a few holes (hours?) as well!
Gosh…I can’t wait to see the score card! My guess (as of May 5, 2010)…I hope to shoot about a 415!
